I get all types of email from various Legette's trying to make a connection with their family.  The Legette's are a very big family and I do believe we're all related.  We're still researching Simon Sr.'s siblings and their offsprings.  I was told that Simon had 1 brother and 2 sisters.  Simon`s brother was named Amos (1882) and he married Hattie Mae Foxworth, they had a child, Floyd Legette Sr.  Simon`s two sisters are named Sissie (1886) and Henrietta (1890). I’m not sure if the sisters married or had children.   I was told that the siblings migrated to either North Carolina or MarylandIf you're browsing this page and these names sound familiar please send us a message by clicking on the contact us button.  But for now, please enjoy the story!

Somewhere in North Carolina grew a young man name
Simon Legette Sr.  Later in life he went to South Carolina.  Meanwhile, in South Carolina, there also grew a beautiful young lady by the name of Lula Abram
.  God allowed these two people to meet, and there a courtship began.  Their courtship developed into love, which grew and grew until it exploded into something big.  Well Simon didn’t mind walking down those long dusty roads to see Lula, eventhough he couldn’t stay long.  As you know, back in those days, people lived way back in the woods on dirt roads.  So on Sunday and Wednesday nights, Simon made his way down that long three-mile dusty road, going to see Lula.  Can’t you see him stopping before he gets to Lula’s house to dust off his clean polished shoes?

Later on in life, Simon thought it was time to talk to his dad about this girl he wanted to marry.  In the meantime, Lula was trying to figure out a way to soften up her parents.  Lula had to say a prayer before she could face her parents.  You know how parents are about their daughters; they don’t think any boy is ever good enough for their little girls.  But, they finally got through to their parents.  Lula parents thought, “well I guess Simon would do for our little girl.”  So both sets of parents finally gave their consent and blessings toward Simon & Lula’s impending marriage.

In the year of 1903, Simon & Lula set off to the chapel where they exchanged wedding vows and became husband & wife.  After three years of honeymooning the couple then decided it was time to start a family.

In the winter of 1906, the 23rd day of February, the couple gave birth to their first child.  This child was a baby girl and they decided to name her Maggie.  As time went on, the house grew too quiet and the couple wanted to give Maggie a little brother.  On January 15, 1908, a baby boy was born and they named him Booker T.  Two years later on February 22, 1910 another boy child was born, they named him Earl.  The young couple worked hard to support their growing family.

In the spring of 1912, on the first day of April, Calvin Willie was born.  Can you see Maggie and Booker T. trying to beat him up?  But this didn’t deter Lula and Simon, they still wanted more children.  So, on March 12, 1914 another little girl was born.  Ruth was fat as a butterball and cute as a button.

Two years later on May 30, 1916, Lula gave birth to handsome young boy named Simon Jr.  By this time baby girl Ruth was jealous of this new baby boy, who took her spot as the baby of the family.  Keeping with their track record, the couple gave birth to David two years later on May 14, 1918.  Well I think Ruth had a fit right along with Simon Jr.  They thought for sure that the love they were getting would be cut short.  They really wanted to beat David up, but Maggie and Booker T. put a stop to the duo.  Lula and Simon kept working hard to support their family.  The older siblings, Maggie, Booker T. & Earl helped take care of the younger children while mom & dad worked.

On January 18, 1920 another boy child, Thomas was added to the family.  Lula & Simon were now the proud parents of 8 children, but the couple wasn’t through yet with having children.  This time they waited four years before having a new child.  On October 10, 1924, a baby boy, Randolph "Dorsey" was born into the family.  Two years later, Lou Pearl was born on December 10, 1926.  Now they had to work extra hard to cloth and fed 10 children and 2 adults.  The older children set out to find work to help support the family.

Three years later on Jun 4, 1929, Lula gave birth to a baby boy whom they named Aaron.  And in 1933 on May 16th, baby boy Cecil was born.  Two years later on March 30, 1935 a baby girl was born and they named her Annie Jean.  Lula & Simon now had 13 children and on November 6, 1937 the couple gave birth to their final child, a boy they named Carl James, giving the couple a total of 14 children.  Eventhough, this family didn’t live in a big beautiful mansion, they enjoyed life and one another in their little wooden house.  Eventhough it was hard raising 14 children, Lula & Simon enjoyed and loved them all.
